Title Block Analysis

This title is white on a red background and is only one letter, easy for the reader to remember. Its very simple yet sophisticated, suggesting its for older readers. The colour red represents passion, yet is a neutral colour, showing that this magazine is unisex. The colours used are typical music magazine colours, so readers can identify the type of magazine it is.

This title gives readers the impression its a rock or heavy metal magazine, for younger, teen readers due to the informal font. The font looks like cracked glass, giving a hard exterior, implying the target audience is male readers.
The colours used contrast each other in order to stand out, black representing power, and white possibly used to show blacks power. These colours are a good combination suggesting rock and heavy metal too are a good combination.

NME appears to be a rock magazine judging by the title. The colours used are red, white, and    black. Red suggests passion for information, and is the main colour used, where as black is representing power and strength.
The font is bold, making it stand out, yet has been abbreviated so its easy to remember. The font is mainly red, suggesting that the magazine is unisex, however due to the black outline, it may be slightly more focused at men.

Costume and Props planning

COSTUME
  • Person 1 will wear dark eye make up, including dark eyeliner and black eye shadow, and have hair in a similar style much like the girl featured on the magazine front cover. The person featured on my magazine cover will be wearing a hat to reinforce the genre of the magazine.
  • I have taken inspiration from this magazines simplistic yet sophisticated layout.
  • I will also use a lot of costume jewlery for effect in these pictures.
  • The cover photo will be in black and white for an unusual/mysterious effect.

I like the colour contrast in this picture, I am going to photoshop and edit my pictures to give a similar effect on the model i'm using to create a more interesting and eye catching front cover.

Props

I am going to use minimal props, like these pictures demonstrate, however my main prop will be an acoustic guitar.

Reader Profile for my magazine

READER PROFILE FOR 'CONFORM' - MY MAGAZINE

Thad, 22, indulges in indie music, he spends the majority of his time collecting and investing in vintage records, and his free time at gigs and spends his summer at festivals; which Conform lists dates for. He is also partial to his guitar. He works as a music video editor, and finds Conform inspirational, and a suited amount to spend judging by his salary. He enjoys reading Conform because of it's simple yet sophisticated layout. Thad also enjoys reading about backstage gossip on his favourite bands and artists.  Thad looks forward to Conform coming out each week, and his favourite feature of the magazine is the new artist releases, keeping him up to date during his busy schedule.
Thad enjoys listening to undiscovered bands, spotting rare talent, branching away from mainstream bands. He's also in a band himself, plays electric and acoustic guitar, however his band is more of a jam with his mates rather than something he takes too seriously.
Thad spends a lot of his time in Camden and Brick lane, and spends some of his spare time doing photography for pleasure.

FONT FOR MAGAZINE TITLE

My fonts are taken from the website 'Da Font'.

The font i have chosen to use is the 'Circus Effect' font as I think this ties in more with the genre in which I have chosen, and its more appealing for the reader to look at.

Key conventions of music magazine

Key Conventions of Music Magazine
Colour scheme is usually red and black as they are seen as stereotypical masculine colours. These colours are seen as passionate and strong, something which will provide energy to the audience.
The masthead for Q is always situated in the top left hand corner. It isn’t always on show which isn’t a problem because it’s always located in the same place therefore the readers know which magazine they’re buying. It is in a bold font, and the colours used are red and white making the font stand out to the reader.
There is usually a current artist as the main image of the magazine, used to attract the readers. It is usually an      attractive female used to attract male attention. The fact Cheryl Cole is wearing red lipstick and licking her lip’s is used to show passion and danger, which would appeal to a male audience.

There are some other artists/bands name written on the left hand side of the magazine used to also entice other readers as it suggest there will be articles about them in the magazine.

The barcode is typically located at the bottom right hand corner of a magazine, however this magazine’s broken away from that stereotype by placing it below the masthead.
